Cause of Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis

Usually, the immune system of the body is activated only when the body feels threatened by outside intrusions or harmful microbes. They produce immune cells and proteins that help to fight against foreign invaders in order to keep the body protected and safe. But in patients with Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, the defense mechanism of the intestine gets activated and stays chronically activated for no reason. This abnormal activation of the immune system in patients with Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis in turn causes chronic inflammation inside the intestine as well as development of ulcers.
